Maintenance in Managed Service for Elasticsearch
Warning
Starting April 11, 2024, support for Yandex Managed Service for Elasticsearch will be discontinued.
Users who have not yet worked with Elasticsearch in the cloud cannot create new clusters starting July 20, 2023. Current service users can use existing clusters and create new ones.
You can create OpenSearch clusters in Yandex Cloud as an alternative to Elasticsearch and transfer data from existing Elasticsearch clusters to Managed Service for OpenSearch.
Maintenance means:
- Automatic installation of Elasticsearch updates and revisions for hosts (including disabled clusters).
- Changes to the host class and storage size.
- Other maintenance activities.
Maintenance includes changes within one Elasticsearch major version. For more information about major version changes, see Updating the Elasticsearch version and edition.
Maintenance window
You can set the preferred maintenance time when creating a cluster or updating its settings:
- The arbitrary option (default) allows performing maintenance at any time.
- The by schedule option allows setting the preferred maintenance start day and time (UTC). For example, you can choose a time when the cluster is least loaded.
Maintenance procedure
In single-host Managed Service for Elasticsearch clusters, a single host with the Data node role undergoes maintenance. This means, if a cluster needs to be restarted during maintenance, it will become unavailable.
In multi-host clusters, hosts with the Data node role undergo maintenance one by one. The hosts are queued randomly. If a host needs to be restarted during maintenance, it becomes unavailable while being restarted. If you access a cluster using the FQDN of the Elasticsearch host, the cluster may become unavailable. To make your application continuously available, access the cluster using a special FQDN always pointing to the available host.
