Yandex Instance Groups

A component of the Yandex Compute Cloud service for deploying and managing similar instance groups.

Quick deployment
Specify the number of VMs, their characteristics and policies, and the service deploys all the VMs itself.
Automatic scaling
The service automatically adjusts the number of instances in the group when the load on your application increases or decreases, and you only pay for the required instances.
High fault tolerance
Your applications are protected from failures: Instance Groups continuously monitors their operation status and, if necessary, restarts the instance or creates a new one.

Getting started

Create an instance group and monitor its status in the management console.

Questions and answers

What is an instance template?

This is the basic instance configuration used for creating all instances in the group. When describing a template, you specify the computing resources to allocate to each instance: vCPUs and RAM. You can choose the computing resources that are appropriate for the expected load. You can also use the template to enable the creation of preemptible instances that are cheaper than regular ones.

How are instance groups updated?

On public image-based VMs, the OS and software are not updated automatically. You can update them yourself in one of two ways: an update with group degradation or a sequential update with shutting down instances for the update interval.

How does a load balancer work with instance groups?

You can create an associated target group for an instance group in Yandex Load Balancer and attach it to a network load balancer. Yandex Load Balancer takes into account all changes in the instance group. You can also use the template to enable the creation of preemptible instances that are cheaper than regular ones.
