Workbooks and collections
Do I have to switch to workbooks?
Yes. Eventually, all navigation inside DataLens will be switched from folders to workbooks, so we recommend that you:
- Create new objects in workbooks.
- Migrate your existing objects to workbooks.
How will access rights be migrated?
Immediately after the migration, you will become the sole administrator of the workbook and will be able to assign access rights to other users and user groups.
How does DataLens find linked objects during migration?
The service does it recursively across all links. This enables you to start migration from any object. For example, you can do it from a dashboard. DataLens will find all linked charts, datasets, and connections. Then, it will repeat the search for links for each found object. Once finished, the service will prompt you to place all found objects in a workbook.
I used a single connection for multiple dashboards, DataLens prompts to place all of them in the same workbook. How can I get a separate workbook for each dashboard?
We recommend placing objects in different workbooks if they have different access rights.
To get a separate workbook for each dashboard, use one of the following methods:
- First, copy all the dashboards from different workbooks. Then, clear the original objects from the folder structure.
- First, migrate all object to one large workbook. Then, create copies of the workbook and clear each copy of unwanted objects, only leaving the ones required for the corresponding dashboard.
